A few years ago, I was pretty much in the same spot you're in now.

So, instead of creating great content, we need to create content that makes the reader mumble under their breath "wow, that was good".
These are the posts that rank in the top 3 of Google and convert readers into customers.
Thing 3: Build Links
Backlinks are the currency of the internet. The more backlinks you get to your blog posts, the higher they will rank (assuming you've created "Damn, that's good" content.
And that's really it!
Do keyword research, write "damn, that's good" content, and build backlinks and you have yourself a really well oiled SEO content machine.
